The
Aurora Police Department has a current authorized sworn force of eight
officers, including the Chief of Police. All police Officers of the
Aurora Police Department are certified by the State of
Nebraska.
The department also employs one Administrative Assistant and one Animal
Control Officer. Both the Administrative Assistant and Animal
Control Officer are not sworn officers or certified by the State of
Nebraska.
The Aurora Police Department
provides 24
hour police protection with its patrol division consisting of six
officers and three police units, two black Dodge Chargers and one white
Crown Victoria. The Aurora Police Department also has one
unmarked Ford Explorer.
In 2007, the Aurora Police
Department implemented a Bicycle Patrol program certifying two officers
as Bicycle Patrol Officers. The Bicycle Patrol was designed
to
increase police and community relations by allowing our officers to be
more active and visible at local events held in the park and the
downtown area. The Bicycle Patrol program allows officers an
alternative tool for crime prevention during the spring, summer, and
fall months.
The Aurora Police Departments
Administration, this includes the Chief of Police, Lieutenant/Assistant
Chief, and Administrative Assistant, work Monday through Friday with
select Holidays off. The Chief of Police and the
Lieutenant/Assistant Chief are available during the hours of 8:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. The Administrative Assistant is available from
8:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
An Aurora Police Officer works a 12 hours
shift. There are three shifts available each day.
The Day
Shift works from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Swing Shift works
from 3:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. The Night Shift works the
hours of
6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The Police Officer’s schedule rotates
every other week: week one working Monday, Tuesday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday and week two working Wednesday and Thursday
(including Holidays). This
rotation allows for our officers to have every other weekend off
allowing them time to spend with their family.
The Animal Control Officer works
part time and is called out as needed during the week and weekends.
